War Games

For this play we had to make our own characters and think about what they want, for example: my character is a fitness freak and womanizer, my character basically joined the army because 9/11 was the only time when he saw his mother cry. The first couple rehearsal did't go well because some student weren't focus at all and was acting immature, eventually  went well because we were focused when we became our characters and we had to perform a scene when we become children and we used physical theatre ,while we were playing with paper air planes creating a gesture , came together making a knot. Also there are aspects of our practical work that need to be improved, for example: projection, our voice need to reach the audience at the back of the theatre as well as feel like I need to change the tone of my voice when I become a child because my voice is really deep.

The 4th of January 2018, is when the group started to make progress, I think during this lesson what went well was that people were focused and was engaging during rehearsal. People in my group were behaving more mature and we were actually communicating about the scenes we were performing along with talking about how we can improve it. I was surprised how much our group has changed   because I came in half way through first year of college and when I joined drama, people seemed like they didn’t care at all about this course, and people were just not focused and would rather just mess about., so I lost hope for this group but near the Christmas term holiday, got to know everyone as well as talking to them to change their ways in lesson. I learnt that acting isn’t just about how well you perform but how well you perform as a group to work at your best ability in a group and help others to do the same.

I think on the 17th of January is when I made progress as an individual because I started think more about what my character wants and that helped me become my character more instead of thinking what I want for my character. In that lesson my movements were more sharp and swift as well as my facial expression looked real, I was just filled with energy. During that lesson I learnt that always have to stay focus even during rehearsal you have to be focused all the time and you just can’t wait till your performance to be focus because you may make a mistake. I think I need to improve on staying focus during rehearsal and working at the best of my ability.

24/1/18
The rehearsal on that day was successful because we were collaborating as a team, and what went well was the scene where we act as if we are going back to camp while enemy fire at us, during that scene our transition was swift and sharp as well as our facial expression was serious, when we enter the camp, there is silent within the atmosphere and everyone gesture shows there’s something wrong. Then Tane and Leo have argument about the girl Leo shot by accident, all of sudden Leo tone of voice became deeper along with his facial expression showing that he is frustrated. The piece improved because all of us were becoming our characters more and starting to show real emotions instead of fake ones , also the pace of our acting has become quite fast, we are able to do more than 3 scenes each lesson because before we would struggle to move on to a different scene, I think the specific scene we need to improve on is the training scene because we need to be in sync more.
